A lot of us are busy running around this season preparing for the holidays and finding the right gifts for loved ones. Just because you’re on the go, though, doesn’t mean you should forget to take care of your hair. Winter weather and climate can leave your hair brittle and dry, and you could risk some serious damage if not properly looked after. Here are some tips to make sure your hair stays healthy and beautiful for the season:
Eat Healthy – As simple as it may seem, it is extremely important that you eat a balanced diet and stay hydrated. If your body is lacking the proper nutrients it needs, your hair and even skin will suffer. Try to eat plenty of fruits and veggies that are rich in Vitamin A, B1, B2, and protein. Don’t be afraid to snack on the holiday turkey either as it contains zinc which is also beneficial for your hair!
Avoid Washing Every Day – While you should wash and shampoo your hair frequently, you shouldn’t be doing it every day. You could be stripping your hair of its natural oils which keeps your scalp and hair healthy. When you do wash, try using a mild and alcohol free shampoo and try to not lather as much.
Condition – Moisturizing conditioners are the best bet for helping your hair stay alive and healthy. Leave in conditioners are also recommended to keep your hair moisturized throughout the day. Make sure to find one that suits your hair type.
Masks – Just like your skin will sometimes need a mask, so does your hair. There are plenty of hair masks to choose from that are meant to condition, rejuvenate, and even lift. Some masks even help avoid the fading of colored hair or highlights.
Don’t Overheat – Avoid spending too much time in a place with indoor heating or using a blow dryer. Too much heat can damage your hair. So try to use blow dryers as little as possible or not at all. If you really need to, try conditioning your hair first before using one.
Proper Wear – It’s cold outside! You’re going to be covering up and that’s okay as long as you do it properly. Avoid woolen scarves or caps as they can upset your hair. Instead try a silk scarf or cap.
Cut – This may not apply to everyone but for those with long hair, you may find it extremely difficult to manage your hair during the season. You might want to consider a medium length cut which should brave the weather change a bit better. However if you’re feeling brave, try a pixie cut which seems to be really popular this winter. If you’re still keen on keeping your long locks, just follow these tips very thoroughly.
